The shoes are the most important investment in the beginning that should be made as soon as possible, however, for the first class comfortable shoes that bend or character shoes will suffice. The Cape Town central studio has some second hand shoes, but bring stockings.

flamenco dancing, singing or guitar classes
The Johannesburg, Cape Town (city centre and Kensington) academies offer dance lessons.
The Cape Goodwood academy, which will open in March, will offer dance and singing classes.
SoloFLAMENCO also has a partnership with Bienyameen Camroodien who offers guitar classes.
philosophy
When the SoloFLAMENCO’s academy was established in 1996, it had a clear and defined objective of using the commonly used methodology in Spain to train dancers, which lacks the traditional formalities as observed as for example in ballet.
Flamenco dancing has no hard set rules except for its ‘palos’ and ‘compas’ (musical rhythmic patterns), which define a rhythmic pattern, song and melody that set the general tone and interpretation for the dancer. However the final touch lies in the unique interpretation of each performer: what one dances is less important than how one does it.
For this reason, it is Flamenco Fusion academy’s philosophy never to bundle training into a syllabus, as it could potentially inhibit the development and expression of each individual dancer. This is the key factor which has given Flamenco dance its renowned passion and greatness on stage.
