rhythm factory
RHYTHM FACTORY - percussive flamenco journey is a Flamenco dance show with no music, where the dancer’s body becomes the instrument and the dance.
Rhythm Factory uses the unique rhythmic phrase structures that form the foundation of flamenco dancing and music to produce a rhythm journey that communicates with young and old, regardless of gender or cultural background.
The show introduces simplistic rhythmic patterns that are easily identifiable to the audience through the percussive elements a flamenco dancer has at his/ her disposal ranging from from footwork (zapateado), finger-snapping (pitos), hand-clapping (palmas), encouraging outcries (jaleos) to castanets (palillos).
These harmonised percussive music melodies progressively build up to lead the audience on a sensory journey to discover the complex rhythmic dynamics produced in flamenco through interactive fun, dramatic and entertaining moments that construes the show.
It also includes a castanet concert and culminates in an explosive finale when these elements are combined with a tuned cajon (percussive rhythm box, used in Flamenco, Peruvian folk music and Jazz).
Great technical skill and fitness are required by the performers as they have to produce the music with their own bodies and dance, as no music or instrumentation are present during the show.
